- Commitment. Often times, at the beginning of the year, we set our goals. It can be weight loss, smoking cessation, exercise, earn more money, be on time for every meeting. We are committed on improving an aspect in our life that we feel had not served us well. Then, we ask, are you willing to give up things, habits, influences that led us to unwellness? Then, we change our minds and not be so committed anymore. Doubt will always kick in and we allow it to change our commitment.
- Courage. This is often mislabeled as willpower. Willpower does not always succeed. Courage is being able to face failure and come back up and retry again. We keep trying until it becomes a habit or a routine that lead us to success. We can have the courage to say no to things, products and people that can deter us from reaching our goals. Everyone fails, it is just a matter of getting back up with enthusiasm.
- Capability. Once we tried, failed, tried again. We reflect, become curious, what did I do this time that worked? What did I do last time that didn’t work. We start to brain storm and process all these trial and errors. We can realize what works and continue moving forward to the next step.
- Confidence- After all the courage and trials and failures, we learned how to do things better. We learned what will work and not work for us, then we gain confidence, we got this.
- Compassion. Self compassion is also very important. We need to allow ourselves to go through the cycle. When we are hard on ourselves, we cannot celebrate the small wins because we are so focused on achieving big wins. It is a journey. Every failure is meant to be a learning experience.
